Pimento Cheese on crackers

Babies just shouldn’t like stuff like pimento cheese on crackers, but it may be Maggie’s most favorite new food, only second to salad with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. While she likes fruit, she is definately not a fan of baked sweets like pie, cobblers, or cookies. Today I was snacking on the cheese and crackers and she tore into them, opting to lick the pimento cheese spread off of the cracker and come back to me, holding out her cracker, saying, “more.”

Yes, you read correctly, she says words now. Several, in fact:

more, mama, dada, dus-in (dustin), dor (dorothy), john, lili (liam), ball, bag, hat, na-na-na (no, no, no) and dog

The bigger kids really enjoy trying to get her to repeat words…and i’m sure out of my earshot they try to get her to say all sorts of things. It’ll be just a matter of time before she’s really talking, especially with all of the coaching she is getting!

Another wonderful camping weekend

This weekend we camped at a hidden little place called Silver Mines. It is tucked away neatly into the Mark Twain National Forest. John tells me that he spent many summer weekends there as a child, one of the bright spots in his dark childhood. I’m so glad that we can share this treasure with our children. The campground was very nice with HUGE spots for each camper and lots of open space for the children to run, kick balls and play. A pathway from the camping area lead to the St. Francois river and, oh wow, how nice is that! The kids splashed and swam in the cool, clear water, and tried to catch little minnows. Amazingly, on Saturday, only one other family came to the river to play, and this morning, our kids were the only ones.

On Saturday we bought fresh eggs from a local farmer, and we went to Johnson Shut-Ins, one of our Missouri State Parks. A couple of years ago the Taumsauk Resevoir broke and came bursting down the mountain, bringing huge boulders along with the water. Amazingly, this water, billions of gallons, crashed into a home and swept 3 sleeping children (one baby included) away from their beds….the amazing part was that all the children lived with minor injury.

Here are pics from the river play, Johnson Shut-In’s and campsite

Summer is stealing my online time!

Between the garden, the pool, the sprinkler, bikes, training for the Lewis & Clark half-marathon, camping and cooking outdoors, my online time has taken a nose dive…and I like it! I love spending all this time with my kids, husband and friends!

Liam recently turned 4 and cannot wait for preschool to start in September. I think it is going to be really good for him because he just doesn’t get the social interaction with children his own age here at home. Thankfully, Grandma and Pawpaw have agreed to take him and pick him up.

Maggie is running. She is climbing. She can get out of bed. She has started using some words. She never ever stops.

Dustin went to work on a turkey farm for a full week. He loved it and he loved spending time with his friend.  He is at a day camp again this week, and has football camp in the evenings! Busy busy busy!

Dorothy is busy with friends, spending time with gma and gpa, will be attending a 2nd week of daycamp later this month, and she can’t wait for cheerleading to start in August. She learned how to go off the diving board this summer!

John is still working full time at Walgreens and out of school for the summer. He is dating someone again…and we like this one LOL!
