The new responses

From time to time parents ask if I can take their children earlier than normal. Occasionally, this is okay. When it becomes a habit, it is no longer okay. To discourage habits from forming, I’ve started answering the question honestly.

Can I bring Jr. at 6:45 tomorrow? Sure, but you need to bring me a Starbucks Carmel Machiato, Talle.

I need to drop off early, like at 6:30am, and then pick up a little later than normal. Oh, okay. I need off early on Friday, could you plan to pick up immediately following nap – 2:30pm?

Would it be a problem if I bring Little at 6:30? No, but that will be an extra $20.

I’m becoming more assertive. I’ve had a problem in the past with people taking advantage of my niceness and my understanding. Both of those are good qualities, but it is easy to see how they can be abused.
